LONDON – Today, the United Nations Environment Programme and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition jointly published the Hidden assets: The economic and health case for climate and clean air action report showing that coordinated investment on climate and air pollution could deliver 15-fold returns. In response, the Breathe Cities Executive Director, Cecilia Vaca Jones said:
“The fight for clean air cannot occur in a silo and this report finally provides the economic data for what we have known all along. When we coordinate across issues, geographies, and levels of government, treating climate action and clean air investment as one, we are not just deploying a cost-effective funding strategy, we are accelerating benefits felt by real people. There are fewer children developing asthma, fewer families losing loved ones to preventable diseases, and stronger, more resilient communities. That is the future Breathe Cities is working toward, and this report makes the case that it is within reach.”
