LONDON – Today, 22 September 2026, marks the 5-year anniversary of the World Health Organization Air Quality Guidelines. In recognition of this milestone, Cecilia Vaca Jones, Executive Director of Breathe Cities, said:
“Five years ago, the WHO raised the bar for what the world should expect from the air we breathe and the evidence for acting on those guidelines has only grown stronger since. Reducing air pollution is one of the most powerful investments a community can make, for health, the economy, and quality of life. Through Breathe Cities, we are doing exactly that: supporting 16 cities to deploy data, build local policy, and turn these guidelines from a global target into real change on the ground. The work now is making sure every community has a real path to get there.”
